Dustin Polage, of Newark, has worked in the foodservice industry for over 13 years. This past July he started a new independent venture, Wild Things food cart, specializing in unique hot dogs. One unique thing about these hot dogs is that they are served in wraps instead of buns. He chose wraps as a healthy alternative to buns, but also because they allow more space for toppings. The Wild Things cart started out selling 100% beef hotdogs, veggie dogs, a variety of specialty hot dogs (all named after songs, by the way), and pulled pork. In addition to normal condiments like mustard and ketchup, he offers a great selection of other condiments, free toppings, and a nice variety of specialty toppings such as sautéed peppers and onions, sauerkraut, coleslaw, bacon, chili and cheese, and many more.
During the summer months, Wild Things Hot Dog Cart can be found on the Square offering delicious All Beef Franks and Italian Sausage. But as of 2015, you can find all of the Wild Things menu options inside their new location at 34 S. Third Street, Newark, Ohio 43055. (Current hours are Monday to Friday 10:00 am to 8:30 pm, and Saturday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. Closed Sunday.)
Wild Things has added Italian Sausages, Brats, Shredded Chicken, Chicken Salad, and Sloppy Joe sandwiches (just to name a few) since relocating inside. Also added to the menu are sides of homemade macaroni & cheese, two types of coleslaw, and a "haystack"(two hashbrowns covered with chili and cheese). Since the business began Wild Things has gained a small following and has already taken place in Final Friday events for Newark Downtown Association and also participated in First Federal Savings and Loan for Customer Appreciation Days.
Wild Things Hot Dog Cart is available for private parties or functions all year round.
